Hot In The City

Sometimes the heat makes you do strange things.

We are loving having Uncle Hay Hay staying with us but the flip side is that he is seeing the Poblete-Walker family in all our "unique" glory.

It is not helping our case that it is 100+ degress these days!

Is She Biting or Kissing?

Camille is going through a stage. At least I hope it is a stage. She bites our faces. Not a real chomp, chomp but some very slobbery face teeth contact. I can't help but laugh every time she does it which only encourages her more.

This week we are lucky enough to have Uncle Hay Hay staying with us who captured the latest bitefest.

First Birthday Extravaganza

I know it is silly to throw a big crazy birthday party for your baby's first birthday but I couldn't resist. I mean I don't have many birthdays before she is calling the shots so Mama did it up!

Princess dress from Uncle Ed is the unexpected cherry on the top!

Josef Originals birthday girl figurine. I have wanted these all my lift so now I get to give them to Camille who will probably think they are lame...hah!

Probably the sweetest picture in the bunch. I am such a lucky lady!

We're Walking!

Nothing can prepare you for the day that your baby actually, officially, unmistakably starts walking. Believe me, I have heard the snarky remarks and noticed the chuckles and knowing looks exchanged by the other parents when I tell them about my baby doing her drunken sailor impressions around the living room. Like with all aspects of parenting, you can't really "know" unless you have been through it yourself.

It is awesome that Camille is finally walking and I think we are as excited by her new mobility as she is but everyone was right, life as we knew it is OVER! This kid was created with alien, super charged batteries that go all day without stopping until 8 o'clock rolls around and the system spontaneously powers down...face down. She does not stop moving even for one second. Like the powers that make her legs move might be suddenly stripped from her and she will be returned to her former worm-like state. The girl is a real go-getter and by that I mean she will go get that dead fly from the window sill, she will go get that rogue piece of dog kibble or that penny that escaped from Obbi's pants pocket.

I am starting to think that the 16 year old moms have got the right idea because my batteries are Safeway brand and are crapping out. There is not enough coffee on the planet to help me keep up with her. So until they come up with a solution to the energy crisis on Lucile Avenue I am going to high tail it to Babies R Us for more baby gates and plug covers and then over to Foot Locker for some sneakers.

Sun and Sandcastles

Initially I was excited about our free neighborhood tickets to the Sunset Junction street fair, but it turns out that babies and beer barf don't mix and my enthusiasm waned. So in honor of our new-found freedom from weekend work worry, we decided to hit the beach before we picked up our friend at the airport. A couple of hours in the fresh sea air was a delightful change and also an opportunity to escape the droves of hipsters swaggering down our street on their way to the fair.
This trip to the beach would be my first with Miss Camille but she is a seasoned pro having been once already with Carley and her mom last month. She did not disappoint with her sand eating and water walking antics. She is a true California girl!

Joie De Vivre

I am reacquainting myself with the idea of joie de vivre. I get so bogged down by the things that bug me in my life that I can't enjoy the simple things that are really beautifully amazing. I can't tell you how many weekends have been spoiled because the previous week wrecked me or the dread of the week ahead has my guts tied up in knots. This past weekend was the start of something new. I deleted my work email from my Blackberry and declared a moratorium on work going forward from Friday at 5 pm to Monday at 8 am...well 7:30 ish!

On Saturday we scouted out birthday party locations at Griffith Park for Camille's upcoming festivities. Despite battling the bee infestation which had Carley's knickers in a twist, it was so fun to get out in the sunshine and enjoy the park. As always, people watching was delicious!

Room Of Her Own

Hurricane Camille rips through the house on a daily basis. Emptying every bookcase in sight, clearing all tables and turning all baskets over with indignation. It seems like she is just as frustrated with us for keeping the house orderly as we are with her redecoration efforts.

Yesterday while straightening her room for the third time, I decided to take some snaps of things that I love in her room. Being a mom lets you get to be a kid again and that is super fun.
